Men's Lacrosse Defeated at Home by Greensboro College

BUENA VISTA, Va.—Looking for its first victory of the season, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team came up short in its bid at home against Greensboro College, falling by a 14-10 score Saturday afternoon at The Fields.

Despite being tied 7-7 at intermission, the Knights allowed The Pride six unanswered goals in the second half to get behind 13-8 with just over four minutes remaining in the game and could not recover with two late goals.

A defensive opening quarter saw The Pride hold a slim 2-0 lead after 15 minutes with both goals coming from attackman Denis Radcliffe.

The Knights' Russell Anderson scored a quick goal to start the second quarter before Greensboro's Charles Stringfellow scored to up the lead to 3-1. Southern Virginia then rattled off three consecutive scores in one minute as Sean Petersen scored, Anderson added one and Casey Rich tallied another to put the Knights up 4-3 with 10 minutes before the break.

The squads traded goals through the remainder of the first half to go into the half tied at seven. Despite a quick strike from Rich to put the Knights up 8-7 early in the third, Southern Virginia could not recover from the six unanswered goals to allow Greensboro to escape with the win.

Rich and Anderson finished the game with three goals apiece while Petersen added two. Mike Bangerter and Anthony Good each logged a goal for the Knights in the loss.

Greensboro's Stringfellow and Blaine Wise totaled four goals apiece to lead the way while Radcliffe tallied three and Drew Farrell put in two others en route to the Pride victory.

Southern Virginia has the week off for Spring Break before competing next Saturday, March 14, at home in its Capital Athletic Conference opener against Mary Washington. The Knights and Eagles face off at 1 p.m. at The Fields in Buena Vista, Virginia.
