SALEM, Va.—The Southern Virginia baseball team suffered a tough 6-1 loss to Roanoke College on Thursday afternoon at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Roanoke (8-5, 1-1 ODAC) got on the scoreboard early from an RBI single in the first inning and later added a second run in the bottom of the third, taking the lead 2-0 over the Knights (5-8, 1-0 CAC). The Maroons scored two more runs off of a triple in the fourth and brought in two runs across the plate in the sixth.
In the top of the eighth inning Southern Virginia's Brevin Baessler earned an RBI single to right field that allowed Ryan Saunders to score, preventing the shutout.
Freshman Tyler Olsen doubled on the day. Senior Justin Cooper took the mound for three innings, only allowing three hits and four runs. Sophomore Jonathan Hodges pitched three innings and earned a strikeout with five hits and two runs. Pitchers Justin King and Tanner Black also saw time on the mound.
The Knights quickly return to action on Saturday, March 12 in a doubleheader against conference opponent Salisbury University in Covington, Virginia. Games are set to begin at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
