COVINGTON, Va.—The Southern Virginia baseball team lost a conference double header on Saturday against No. 13 Salisbury University 4-1 and 11-1 at Casey Field.
In game one Salisbury (8-3, 3-0 CAC), ranked 13th by the NCBWA and D3Baseball.com, got on the scoreboard early in the top of the first inning scoring off of an RBI single. The Seagulls added three more runs by the end of the seventh, taking the lead 4-0.
Southern Virginia (5-10, 1-2 CAC) prevented the shutout in the eighth inning when Jordan Nase hit an RBI single up the middle allowing Justin Cooper to score. The Knights were unable to score again, falling to the Seagulls 4-1.
Jordan Nase earned two hits and an RBI for Southern Virginia. In six innings pitched Gage Bigelow earned five strikeouts with eight hits and four runs. Jonathan Hodges also saw time on the mound allowing two hits.
Salisbury continued their momentum in game two, taking a 8-0 lead after four innings.
Southern Virginia scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning as Brevin Baessler crossed the plate during a double play.
The Seagulls added three more runs in the seventh, securing the 11-1 win over the Knights.
Ryan Saunders, Brevin Baessler, and Davis Jones each earned a hit in game two.
Tayler Peterson recorded two strikeouts with eight hits, eight runs, and a homerun in three innings pitched. Justin King pitched three innings allowing six hits, three runs, and a homerun. Seth Burris, Tanner Black, and Brandon Cattich each pitched for the Knights.
The Knights travel to Lexington, Virginia to play Washington and Lee University on Tuesday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
