COVINGTON, Va.—The Southern Virginia softball team hosted Wilson College Friday evening and the Jackson River Sports Complex, splitting a double header with a 3-0 win in game one and a 7-0 loss in game two.
Game One
Southern Virginia (3-5) had an impressive start to the game scoring three runs in the first inning. Senior shortstop Annie Clark hit the only RBI to score the third run for the Knights. Tara Hilton and Madison Muse also recorded hits in the bottom of the first.
Muse faced 28 batters in the circle for the Knights, recording two strikeouts and allowing only four hits in the shutout, while earning two hits in her three at bats.
The Knights' pitching and defense was able to hold the Pheonix (1-5) scoreless for all seven innings.
Game Two
In game two it was Southern Virginia who went scoreless. The Knights fell behind 2-0 in the first inning and the Phoenix continued to score throughout the remainder of the game, scoring two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to secure their first win of the season.
Sarah Edwards and Jordan Stites earned the only hits.
Rachael Moore and Madisen Muse split time pitching for the Knights, combining for six strikeouts.
Southern Virginia will play a double header at Guilford College on Saturday, March 12. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
