HARRISONBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia baseball team fell on the road to Eastern Mennonite University 8-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Knights (4-5) allowed the Royals (8-2) to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of second inning off of two RBI singles. In the top of the third Southern Virginia responded with an RBI double to right field putting the score at 2-1.
Eastern Mennonite kept the momentum scoring three runs in the third and added three in the sixth. The Knights scored in the eighth inning off a RBI single, but came up short 8-2.
Freshman outfielder Cody Davis led the team with two runs and a walk, scoring the only runs for Southern Virginia. Freshman Jordan Nase earned an RBI double to right field in the top of the third allowing Davis to score.
Sophomore Ryan Saunders recorded the RBI single that brought Davis across the plate in the top of the eighth inning. Marcus Begg tallied two hits while Zach McNally doubled on the day.
Sophomore Tayler Peterson pitched three innings allowing five runs and two walks with five strikeouts. Junior Justin King allowed three runs and a walk with a strikeout in two innings pitched. Jonathan Hodges and Justin Cooper also saw time on the mound.
Southern Virginia travels to Danville, Virginia to take on Averett University in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 5. Games are set to begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
