BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia softball team hosted Ferrum College in a double header Wednesday evening at Harvey-Dryden Field, falling in both games 10-1 and 2-0.
Game One
Southern Virginia (3-15) and Ferrum College (10-8) seemed to be playing toe and toe, tied at one after the fifth inning. The Knights got on the scoreboard in the third off of a Sarah Edwards' RBI that brought Aubrey Jorgensen across the plate. The Panthers found momentum in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs and added two more in the seventh to take the victory in game one 10-1.
Rachael Moore led the team with two hits. Jordan Stites, Jorgensen, and Katierose Helems each earned a hit.
Madisen Muse faced 38 batters in seven innings pitched and recorded two strikeouts.
Game Two
In game two Ferrum took the lead early scoring a run in the first inning. The Knights played strong defensively holding the Panthers to only a 1-0 lead after the fourth. Ferrum added a run in the fifth, taking the win 2-0 over Southern Virginia.
The Knights were led by Sarah Edwards with two hits. Mollie Gabbert and Jordan Stites each earned a hit against the Panthers.
Annie Clark pitched all seven innings earning three strikeouts in her first game of the year in the circle.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, March 26 to play a double header at home against conference opponent York College of Pennsylvania. The games are set to begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Harvey-Dryden Field.
