BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia softball team was swept by York College of Pennsylvania 2-0 and 19-2 in their conference opening double header on Saturday afternoon at Harvey-Dryden Field.
Game One
In a tightly contested battle, the Knights (3-17, 0-2) held the Spartans (15-5, 2-0) scoreless through five innings. York College was able to connect on two pitches hitting back-to-back homeruns in the sixth, taking victory 2-0 over Southern Virginia.
Madisen Muse led the team with two hits, including a double. Rachael Moore doubled and Mollie Gabbert recorded a hit.
Muse earned three strikeouts with five hits in seven innings pitched.
Game Two
York College took an early lead over Southern Virginia scoring 11 runs in the second inning and adding five in the third. In the bottom of the third Tara Hilton hit a RBI single to right center that brought Rachael Moore across the plate, putting the Knights on the scoreboard.
In the fourth York recorded a homerun to take the lead 17-1. The Knights responded with a homerun to centerfield by Gabbert. York College added two more runs in the fifth, taking the win 19-2 in five innings.
Moore and Annie Clark recorded doubles while Tara Hilton tallied a hit and an RBI for the Knights.
Madisen Muse earned two strikeouts in three innings pitched. Moore and Clark also saw time in the circle against York.
Southern Virginia hosts Maine-Presque Isle in a non-conference double header on Tuesday, March 29 at Harvey-Dryden Field. Game one is set to begin at 5 p.m.
