Knights Fall in First Round

Box Score

By Nick Porter

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's lacrosse team fell in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference playoffs 19-5 to Christopher Newport. The Knights were the number 6 seed playing at number 3.

The Knights (6-10, 2-7 CAC) jumped to an early 2-1 lead on goals from CAC-leading Casey Rich and Spencer Tunick, who scored just seconds apart. Despite the early success, the Knights would face a scoring drought for the next 49 minutes.

Within that time the Captains (13-4, 7-2 CAC) scored 13 goals before Zach Danneman capitalized on a man-up opportunity mid-way through the fourth quarter. Minutes later, after another CNU goal, Logan Lund scored his second goal of the season seconds after winning one of 13 faceoffs.

The Captains would snag a couple more goals before Tunick scored the final goal of the game, and the season for the Knights, from a Ryan Larsen assist.

Ian Arave recorded 17 saves in goal.

Southern Virginia wraps up a record-breaking season with their first two conference wins in program history and first playoff appearance.
