BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's lacrosse team fell 20-10 to Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon.
The Captains (10-2, 4-0 CAC) scored less than a minute into the game and added another one minutes later to take an early 2-0 lead. The Knights (5-7, 2-4 CAC) made their own run as they tied the game 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Southern Virginia struggled to score in the second quarter and fell behind 9-4 going into halftime.
In the second half Christopher Newport scored the first two, but the Knights went on a six-goal run to bring the game within one goal (11-10). This, however, was the last goal Southern Virginia was able to score and the Captains finished out the game on a nine-goal run.
Freshman Zach Danneman had a career high of six goals, including three in the third quarter. Casey Rich added three goals and two assists. Spencer Tunick scored one goal for the Knights.
In goal, Ian Arave also had a career high with 19 saves. The Captains outshot the Knights 55-26.
Southern Virginia plays at CAC opponent Frostburg State University on Tuesday, April 5 at 4 p.m.
