NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Southern Virginia softball team came up short at Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Captains 2-1 and 12-4.
Game One
Both teams scored a run in the third inning with CNU's (17-4, 7-1 CAC) game-winning run coming in the fifth. The Knights' (7-25, 0-10 CAC) run came as Jordan Stites singled to left center scoring Sarah Edwards.
Madisen Muse earned three strikeouts in six innings pitched and allowed just seven hits.
Game Two
Game two was a little higher scoring than game one, with eight runs scored in the first inning alone. Southern Virginia scored two runs from a pair of errors from the infield before the Captains answered with six runs.
The Knights scored two runs in the top of the third from a two-run homer by Mollie Gabbert, scoring Sarah Edwards.
CNU scored runs in the second and fourth and fifth, ending the game on a walk-off double to win 12-4 in five innings.
Muse pitched for the Knights giving up six earned runs.
Southern Virginia returns home for senior day on Wednesday, April 13 versus Frostburg State. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Harvey-Dryden Field.
