GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell 8-4 and 12-1 in a non-conference doubleheader at Greensboro College Saturday afternoon.
A three-run ninth wasn't enough in game one for the Knights (1-5), who were unable to bounce back from an 8-1 deficit in the final inning.
Southern Virginia got on the board in the top half of the first inning as Josh Hilburn scored on a Ryan Morin groundout.
Greensboro (5-0) answered in the bottom of the next three innings to take a 4-1 lead. The Pride then scored three runs in the seventh and another in the eighth for an 8-1 lead.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, first baseman Zach McNallly doubled to right center scoring Morin, Ryan Saunders and Josh Hilburn.
Tayler Peterson pitched six innings and recorded four strikeouts in his first loss of the season.
In game two the Knights were only able to get a single run on the board in the fourth inning, with McNally's fourth RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly which scored Hilburn.
Riley Daniels was tagged with the loss on the mound, recording one K and allowing five earned runs. Tanner Black, Jonathan Hodges and McNally also saw time on the mound.
The Knights will return to Lynchburg on Wednesday before opening the home season on Friday afternoon. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
