WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The Southern Virginia softball team fell in both games of a double-header against Salem College in their season opener, falling 11-1 in game one and 9-0 in game two.
In the first contest, the Knights (0-2) allowed eight runs in the first two innings and scored their lone run in the top of the fourth before Salem (3-1) earned three more runs. Megan Stapley pitched all four innings and recorded one strikeout. Tara Hilton, Melanie Peyton, and Madison Rigby each recorded a hit.
In game two the Knights held Salem scoreless in the first three innings, but gave up nine runs in the bottom of the fourth. Megan Harmon pitched for the Knights; Peyton had two hits and Rachael Moore added one.
Southern Virginia plays Shenandoah and Randolph on Saturday, February 18 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Game times are 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
