WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The Southern Virginia University softball team suffered a winless Saturday, falling on the road 13-4 to Shenandoah University and 16-2 to Randolph College.
Against Shenandoah (1-1), the Knights (0-4) allowed five runs in the first inning but answered with four of their own in the top of the second. Alyssa Gastelum hit two RBIs to lead the Knights. Melanie Peyton and Madison Rigby each had an RBI. Shenandoah earned seven more runs in the final three innings. Megan Harmon pitched four innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out one batter.
In the second game of the day, against Randolph (1-0), the Wildcats scored nine runs in the first three innings to take an early lead. The Knights scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings off of RBIs from Mollie Gabbert and Katierose Helems. Rachael Moore hit a double; Megan Stapley and Harmon pitched for the Knights.
The Knights travel to Guilford College for a double header on Saturday, February 25. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
