NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team lost 19-12 to Christopher Newport University as they continued Capital Athletic Conference action.
The Knights (4-4, 2-1 CAC) found the back of the net in the first minutes of the game, but the Captains (7-2, 2-0 CAC) scored five in a row to take the four-goal lead after the first quarter. A Shawn Lamb goal temporarily stopped the Captains' run, but Christopher Newport went into halftime up 10-3.
The third quarter was controlled by the home team as they scored eight goals compared to the Knights three. However, in the fourth quarter, Southern Virginia scored six to cut the lead down, and the defense held the Captains to only one goal.
Freshman Shawn Lamb led the Knights' offense with four goals. Brady Cook, Spencer Tunick, and Casey Rich each contributed a pair goals. Anthony Good and Derek Marks added a goal apiece.
Ian Arave played all 60 minutes in goal for the Knights and recorded 16 saves.
Southern Virginia returns home as they host the nation's No. 1 team, Salisbury University at 1 p.m. EST on Saturday, March 25.
