FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell 11-6 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, at the University of Mary Washington.

The Eagles (10-9, 3-4 CAC) jumped to an early four-run lead after two innings. In the fourth, the Knights (8-17, 2-5 CAC) were able to snag a run on a passed ball.

Mary Washington rallied seven runs in the sixth, and the Knights' five runs in the final three innings weren't quite enough to overcome the deficit.

In the seventh, Austen Hammond reached on an error and later scored on a Zach McNally single. The next inning brought two more runs for Southern Virginia, coming from a Ryan Saunders RBI and three defensive errors.

During the final inning, Alex Burgos and Josh Hilburn each recorded RBIs.

Ryan Morin recorded the Knights' only extra base hit and Tayler Peterson was tagged with the loss on the mound, with three strikeouts.

Southern Virginia will head to Salisbury University on Saturday, March 25. The doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m.
