Gulls Take Twin Bill from Knights

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

By Sam Armstrong

SALISBURY, Md. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell in both conference games of their doubleheader on Saturday at Salisbury University.

The Seagulls (16-7, 8-1 CAC) barely slipped past the Knights (8-19, 2-7 CAC) in a closely contested first game by a score of 4-3, and ended the day with a 14-3 win.

In game one, the Knights' offense was led by Riley Daniels, who recorded three hits, including two doubles. Josh Hilburn, Alex Burgos, and Zach McNally had an RBI apiece. The Knights took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but a walk-off sacrifice fly to right field completed the Seagull's three-run rally.

Seth Burris was fantastic on the mound for Southern Virginia, pitching eight and two-thirds innings and allowing only seven hits with three strikeouts.

Game two was a different story, however, with the Seagulls scoring all 14 of their runs in the first five innings.

Josh Hilburn went two for three with two RBI's for the game, with Ryan Saunders driving in a run as well. The Knights were solid in the field, making no errors.

Southern Virginia will travel back to Maryland on Wednesday to take on Frostburg State. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
