SALEM, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team took home a 7-6 win on Monday in a non-conference matchup against Roanoke College.

Trailing the majority of the game, the Knights (10-25) scored all seven of their runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Maroons (21-11).

Zach McNally walked to start the rally, after which, Ryan Morin singled and Jordan Keefer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Two consecutive hits from Skylar Cloward and Alex Brugos followed, each bringing in two runs to tie the game at 4-4. Riley Daniels singled to left field to drive home the go-ahead run, and Morin completed the scoring by driving in two runs more on his second hit of the inning.

The Maroons didn't go away, however, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to bring the game to 7-6, but sophomore Tanner Black was able to get the final out and earn the save.

Infielders Daniels and Morin both tallied three hits on the game, with Cole Critchfield adding two of his own. Jonathan Hodges pitched seven solid innings for the Knights, giving up ten hits and four earned runs. Senior Michael Stirling picked up the win on the mound. 

The win marks the first time the Knights have topped the Maroons since game two of a doubleheader in 2008.

Southern Virginia will play again on Tuesday as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on Eastern Mennonite. First pitch is at 4:00 p.m.
