YORK, Pa. – The Southern Virginia University softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader on Saturday to York (Pa.) by scores of 6-1 and 8-0.
The Spartans (19-11, 5-5 CAC) accumulated 19 hits over the pair of games to come away with the wins, compared to the Knights' (9-20, 0-9 CAC) seven.
Shortstop Mykayla Johnson started off the first game with a bang, blasting a solo home run to put the Knights on the scoreboard first. Southern Virginia would hold the 1-0 lead until the sixth inning, when the Spartans scored six runs on five hits, including three doubles. The Knights showed life in the top of the seventh with singles from Rachael Moore and Mollie Gabbert, but were unable to answer.
Southern Virginia ended the game with six hits, all from different players. Sophomore Megan Stapley lasted six innings in the circle for the Knights, giving up four earned runs in the loss.
York took control right from the start in game two, posting four runs in the first inning. They tacked on four more in the later innings.
Centerfielder Tara Hilton had the lone hit for Southern Virginia. Freshman Megan Harmon took the loss for the game.
Southern Virginia will look to get back in the win column on Friday as they take on Christopher Newport in a twin bill. Game one starts at 4:00 p.m. at The Fields.
