LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team (2-0) ended their fall season in a big way, defeating in state rival Randolph College (0-1), 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.

In doubles, the No. 1 team consisting of Rachel Neeleman and Lauren Morrison caught fire early and would not be stopped, taking down their opponents 8-1.

Despite an impressive effort, the Knights No. 2 team came up short, falling to Randolph 8-2.

At the No. 3 doubles flight, Southern Virginia's Leeanne Aldrich and Audrey McBride found themselves in a battle all the way down the stretch. The match ended up going to a tiebreaker where the Knights were able to prevail, giving them a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.

In singles play, Southern Virginia's top four players split their matches evenly with Randolph 2-2 putting the Knights only one point away from victory. Among these matches was a big win from Freshman Alyssa Sewell who defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1.

Audrey McBride and Leeanne Aldrich took the court at the No's. 5 and 6 flights to try and clinch the match for Southern Virginia. Fortunately, both girls came out ready to play, defeating their opponents 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively, winning the match for the Knights by a final team score of 6-3.

The Knights were really excited with their win as it's the first time that they have defeated Randolph since the 2010-2011 season.

The Southern Virginia women's tennis action will resume in the spring as they play host to Hollins University. The match is scheduled for March 6th at 3:00 p.m.
