LEXINGTON, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team dropped its matchup with Washington & Lee on Wednesday, falling 4-2 to their cross-county rivals.

After falling behind 4-0 going into the eighth inning, the Knights (1-3) put together a nice frame kicked off by a Stetson Kay bunt single and a Jordan Keefer walk. Shortstop Riley Daniels put the Knights on the board by singling up the middle. A few batters later, senior Ryan Saunders grounded out but picked up an RBI in the process, pulling Southern Virginia within two. The squad was unable to score in the ninth, however.

Along with Daniels and Saunders, outfielder Caleb Layden put together a solid game by picking up two hits, while catcher Jordan Keefer walked twice and scored a run.

The Knights suffered from a lack of offense, compiling only five hits while whiffing seven times to the Generals' (3-0) 11 hits.

Jonathan Soto had a nice outing on the mound, giving up three runs on eight hits over five and one-third innings in the loss. The Knights' pitching as a whole did a good job of getting out of jams, leaving 10 runners on base.

Southern Virginia will look to right the ship tomorrow as they hit the road to take on Averett. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Danville, Va. in a doubleheader originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17.
