FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team continued CAC play on Monday, falling to the University of Mary Washington 4-3.

In the top of the first, the Knights (9-9, 1-2 CAC) took an early 1-0 advantage when freshman Canon Anderson hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Stetson Kay. The Eagles (13-7-1, 2-1 CAC) tied the game up in the third and scored again in the fourth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead.

Southern Virginia's offense had a little two-out magic in the seventh inning with Kay delivering an RBI single to right field, after which Caleb Layden scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 3-3. That was the end of the luck for the Knights, however, as Mary Washington hit a walk-off single with one out in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

Jonathan Soto started on the hill and pitched a very solid five innings, giving up only five hits and two earned runs. Jonathan Hodges took the loss in relief, allowing one run on six hits over three and one-third innings.

Along with Anderson and Kay who each contributed an RBI, Bridger Taylor also had an excellent day at the plate, finishing with two hits, a walk, and a stolen base. Layden and Ryan Saunders were the only other Knights with hits, tacking on a single apiece.

The Knights will take on No. 11 Frostburg State (12-4, 0-1 CAC) on Thursday in another conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. at Parry McCluer High School.
