HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Southern Virginia baseball team picked up a solid nonconference win on Tuesday, beating Eastern Mennonite 11-5 on the road.

The Knights' (15-13) offense was firing on all cylinders, scoring two runs in the third inning, four in the fifth, four in the seventh, and one more in the ninth to seal the win against the Royals (11-22).

Shortstop Stetson Kay was seeing the ball extremely well, hitting a double, a triple, and finishing with a season-high five RBIs in the game. He was not the only one with a great performance, as Caleb Layden was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, Cole Critchfield and Jonathan Soto each had a pair of hits, and freshman Bridger Taylor drove in two runs on a home run to left-center in the fifth inning.

Southern Virginia used a host of pitchers on Tuesday with Jaxon Newbold earning the win in his first start of the year, lasting three innings and only giving up two hits and no earned runs.

The team takes resumes CAC action on Wednesday as they travel east to take on No. 9 Christopher Newport. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
