BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia men's lacrosse team picked up their second conference win on Saturday, beating St. Mary's (Md.) by a score of 13-10.
The Seahawks (4-9, 1-3 CAC) got out to an early 4-3 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Knights (8-5, 2-2 CAC) stormed back, scoring six unanswered goals across the second and third quarters to make the game 9-4.
The Seahawks didn't give up, however, scoring the final goal of the third quarter and the first three goals of the fourth to pull within one at 8-9. The Knights responded by scoring three goals in a three-minute span, and eventually went on to take a 13-10 victory.
Freshman Tennison Schmidt was the man of the match, scoring four goals on only seven shots while dishing out three assists. Seth Garff also performed well, scoring two goals with three assists, while Jace Thomas won 17 of 21 faceoffs and put two in the back of the net.
Also scoring for the Knights was Isaac DeGarlais, Cayd Rich, Ty Veres, Anthony Good, and Shawn Lamb. Lamb added two assists, bringing his conference-leading assist total to 32.
Ian Arave started in goal for Southern Virginia, saving a season-high 16 shots in the win.
The Knights hit the road on Wednesday to take on Frostburg State. The game is slated for 4:00 in Frostburg, Md.
