GRANTHAM, Pa. — The Southern Virginia men's lacrosse team was dealt their first loss of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling 17-10 to Messiah College.

The Knights (2-1) quickly jumped out on top in the first quarter with Tennison Schmidt and Carter Bean scoring the game's first two goals. The Falcons (1-1) then scored four straight unanswered goals to give them the 4-2 lead.

In the second quarter, the Knights were limited to just one goal coming from Zach Danneman. The Falcons extended their lead outscoring Southern Virginia 6-1 and claiming a 10-3 halftime lead.

Southern Virginia attempted a comeback in the second half with a strong third quarter scoring five goals. The Knights got to within four at the start of the fourth quarter, but four more unanswered goals allowed the Falcons to put away the Knights 17-10.

Bean and Danneman led Southern Virginia each with three goals. Shawn Lamb added two goals and teammates Schmidt, Chandler Wescott each with one. Nick Bair led the team with five ground balls. Goalkeeper Ian Arave recorded 23 saves in the loss.

Joseph Franken and Garrett Amsbaugh for the Falcons led the game with five goals apiece. Evan Stoker was the winning goalkeeper with 18 saves.

The Knights return home to matchup against Birmingham Southern Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2:00 p.m at Knight Stadium.
