BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University softball team split a pair of games with Mary Baldwin University on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 2-1 and dropping the second 8-3.

Junior Megan Harmon pitched a masterpiece for the Knights (4-14) in game one, throwing seven innings and only giving up three hits and one run while striking out three in the win.

Down 1-0 in the fifth inning, Harmon was able to draw a bases loaded walk, and Jordan Stites scoring on an errant throw to take the lead over the Fighting Squirrels (3-9).

Southern Virginia didn't wait as long to get on the board in game two, with Bethanie Hudson hitting an RBI single and Tara Hilton driving in two more with a double to take a 3-1 lead.

Mary Baldwin was able to score three more runs in the second, two in the fourth, and two more in the seventh to lock up the win.

Eight different Knights collected a hit in the game, and the defense was solid in committing only a single error. Harmon again started in the circle, lasting four innings and giving up five earned runs. Melanie Peyton pitched the last three innings, striking out three and giving up two runs.

The Knights will continue their season on Monday as they travel north to take on Eastern Mennonite. The first game will start at 3:00 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
