BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 1 Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-0 in the first game and 12-2 in the second.

The Knights (6-20, 0-2 CAC) were competitive with the Captains (18-2, 2-0 CAC) through three innings, trailing 1-0, but Christopher Newport scored seven runs in the fourth to take control of the game, and four more in the fifth to close it out.

The only Southern Virginia players with hits in the game were Heather Terranova, Krystal Kemp, and Matea Manuleleua, as they each finished with a single.

Kemp was in the circle for the Knights, lasting five innings and striking out two in the loss.

The Captains were able to score in every inning in game two on their way to the sweep.

The Knights' lineup was able to step it up with six hits in the second game, as Megan Harmon led the way with two base-knocks, Bethanie Hudson and Tara Hilton each had an RBI.

Harmon pitched five innings for the Knights, striking out four.

Southern Virginia will continue its conference schedule on Wednesday as they take on Frostburg State. Game one will start at 3:00 p.m. in Frostburg, Maryland.
