FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University softball team was eliminated from Capital Athletic Conference play Monday afternoon by York College (Pa.) falling 6-2.

The Knights (11-30) shut out the Spartans (25-18) for the first two innings.

In the top of the third inning, the Spartans capitalized on consecutive Knight errors that allowed them to take a 2-0 lead.

The fourth inning followed the third as an error following a Spartan single extended their lead to now 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Knights attempted a comeback with Krystal Kemp recording a single into center field that would bring home Heather Terranova. Two batters later, Tara Caputo hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Megan Harmon bringing the Knights to within two, trailing 4-2.

The Knights were shutout the remainder of the game as the Spartans sealed the game scoring runs in both the sixth and seventh innings recording the 6-2 victory.

Southern Virginia outhit the Spartans 8-4 with Terranova as the only player to tally multiple hits. Harmon, kemp, Mykayla Johnson, Caputo, Madison Rigby and Matea Manuleleua each recorded a hit for the Knight offense.

Megan Harmon was in the circle for the Knights, throwing seven innings with three strikeouts while limiting the Spartans offense to just four hits in the loss.

The Knights end their season making the program's first-ever CAC Tournament appearance and the program's first postseason win that came last Saturday.
