BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team dropped a pair of games Saturday afternoon to Penn State Harrisburg falling 9-6 in the first game and 18-1 the second.

In the first game, the Knights (12-9, 4-5 CAC) trailed the entire game facing their biggest deficit 9-0 entering the bottom of the eighth inning.

Southern Virginia's offense rallied late in the game, starting with two runs being walked in on strong at-bats from Cole Critchfield and Bridger Taylor with the bases loaded. The following batter, Canon Anderson laced the ball over the right-field fence for the grand slam to cut the Lions (17-7-1, 6-5) lead 9-6 heading into the ninth inning.

After a quick inning in the ninth on defense, the Knights offense failed to provide a spark, losing the first game 9-6.

The Knights totaled eight hits in 35 plate appearances with Caleb Layden recording three hits and Brady Lamb with two. Anderson's now leads the team with six home runs on the year.

Jonny Soto is dealt the loss after going five innings with four strikeouts.

In game two, the Lions offense overpowered the Knights' defense taking them down 18-1.

The Knights lone run of the game from Taylor with a single that scored Ryan Morin in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lions tallied 22 hits, three home runs and had nine different players collect a hit. Zach Gettys was on the mound for the Lions going six innings with nine strikeouts in the win.

Southern Virginia will head into a quick non-conference matchup against Eastern Mennonite Tuesday, April 9 starting at 4:00 p.m.
