Swimming Splits Duals Against Ferrum and Lynchburg

FERRUM, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's and women's swim teams competed in a pair of duals against Ferrum College and the University of Lynchburg. Both teams split on the day with the men's team beating Ferrum 168-56 and falling to Lynchburg 146-105 while the women's team defeated Ferrum 113-75 and lost 191-42 to Lynchburg.

"There were a lot of great swims today," said head coach Jennifer Moore. "The teams have great camaraderie, and they are coming together as a team. I'm proud of the way they raced."

On the men's team, the Knights came away with four individual victories and a pair of relay wins. Connor Moore was the lone Southern Virginia swimmer to earn multiple victories, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:25.58 and then in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.29. He also added a second-place finish in the 200 yard IM recording a time of 2:09.8. James Baldwin was the first to touch the wall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.25 while Jonathan Dye placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.17. Baldwin also picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke clocking in at 57.26.

The squad of Baldwin, Dye, Moore, and McCreadie won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:49.63 while Baldwin, Dye, Lott, and McCreadie came away with the victory int he 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:22.23.

Other notable performances for the men's team included Colin Moore in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:25.75. Gordon McCreadie collected a pair of seconds in the 50 and 500-yard freestyles. Newcomer Travis Lott earned a second-place finish in the 100 -yard butterfly and third in the 50-yard freestyle. Tate May rounded out top-three finishes placing third in the 500-yard freestyle.

On the women's team, Macy Waite recorded the top-finish coming in second in the 1000-yard freestyle in 13:29.55 and also added a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard free. Taylor Mercer finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle while Emma Merrill placed third in the 200-yard backstroke. Eve Bonney also came in third in the 200-yard IM for the Knights.

Other notable performances on the women's team were a pair of fourth-place finishes by Emmy Waite in both the 50-yard freestyle and the100-yard butterfly. Brooklyn Sandholzer finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke while teammate Ellie Burgy came in fifth in the 200-yard freestyle.

The quartet of E. Waite, M. Waite, Merrill, and Burgy pulled off two second-place finishes in the relays, clocking in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:59.99 and 4:24.37 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Southern Virginia will now travel to Mary Washington for a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) matchup on Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at noon.
