Box Score ATLANTA, GA. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team faced off against Emory University Friday night in the NCAA National Tournament First Round. The Knights ended their historical season, falling to the Eagles in three sets.
Game Notes
- Sydney Hopkin snagged the first kill of the night for the team being set up by senior Elle Warnick
- Courtney Pinkston sparked a 6-1 scoring for the Knights to put the team up by one point 9-8 at the beginning of the first set
- Emory displayed their offense power the remainder of the set, taking the 25-17 set win to go up 1-0 in the match
- Southern Virginia came out hot in the second set, jumping to a quick 6-4 lead with kills from Brenna Clyde and Julia Monson
- The Eagles evened the score up, and both teams exchanged points with the score being knotted at 16 midway through the set
- Emory used a 9-3 scoring run at the end of the second to take the 19-25 set victory
- Southern Virginia again came out hot in the third with a 6-3 lead with two kills from Courtney Pinkston and one kill from Sydney Hopkin
- The Eagles closed the gap and took the one-point advantage 7-6, and raced to a 19-10 lead late in the set
- The Knights used a quick three-point run to bring their point total to 13, but Emory closed out the game with a final six-point run to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament
Southern Virginia will look to build upon this year's success and accomplishments in preparation for the 2022 camapaign.
