Box Score BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University football team hosted their first game of the season in Knight Stadium Saturday afternoon, falling to Bridgewater College 35-17.

First Quarter:
- Bridgewater's opening drive presented a field goal opportunity, but Jackson Hendren failed to convert
- Southern Virginia's second drive of the game saw Davis Pinkston complete four passes to setup field position on Bridgewater's 13-yard line
- Pinkston dropped back on the next play, finding Skylar Johnson in the endzone to go up 6-0
- Derek Bass converted the ensuing extra point
- Bridgewater only needed three minutes to tie the game up 7-7 after Matt Lawton found Alston Honeycutt for the touchdown reception
Second Quarter:
- With eight minutes remaining in the first half, Matt Lawton of the Eagles found an open Chad Jones for an 18-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-7 on the Knights
- With 30 seconds remaining, Bridgewater capitalized on an interception by Pinkston with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Chad Jones
- The Eagles converted the two-point conversion, rushing it up the middle to go up 22-7
Third Quarter:
- Bridgewater received the kick-off to start the third quarter, marching down the field to convert the field goal made by Jackson Hendren, making the new score 25-7
- With ten minutes on the clock, Davis Pinkston scrambled from the pocket, finding an open Jake Schenk who broke free from the defense, diving for the endzone and scoring the 58-yard touchdown
- Derek Bass again converted the extra point
- Bridgewater answered, scoring another field goal by Jackson Hendren, doubling up Southern Virginia 28-14
Fourth Quarter:
- Starting the final quarter of the game, the Eagles found themselves with second and goal on the two-yard line, with Demetreus Jalepes scoring the two-yard rushing touchdown
- Bridgewater's defense stood tall the remainder of the game, limiting the Knights' offense to one more field goal by Derek Bass, securing the 35-17 victory
Southern Virginia continues their season, staying home on Saturday, September 18. The Knights take on LaGrange in Knight Stadium at 1 pm.
