BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Football team returns home Saturday, October 29, taking on Methodist University for week nine of the 2022 season.
"Just like every week, we have a tough week ahead of us" stated Coach Mulitalo. "We need to clean things up across the board and not leave anything on the field."
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS:
Methodist is coming off a close game to No. 21 Huntingdon at home, falling to the Hawks 35-38.
Brandon Bullins had a monster game, going 20-for-42 for 388 yards, and five touchdowns, connecting with his favorite target Kobe Praylow, who had ten receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown.
Josh Hill anchored the defense with ten total tackles off five solo and five assisted tackles.
THE SERIES:
The two teams meet for only the second time in program history, with the Monarchs conquering the Knights last year 37-14.
Quarterbacks Davis Pinkston and Brandon Bullins matched eachother, recording two touchdowns and one interception.
After Southern Virginia took the 14-13 lead late in the second quarter off a 15-yard touchdown pass from Pinkston to Matt Johansson, Methodist pulled away with four consecutive touchdowns to take home the 37-14 victory.
KEYS TO THE GAME:
When speaking to Head Coach, Ed Mulitalo, he had one clear objective for the weekend, which is to simply "leave nothing on the field".
If the Knights can come out swinging and play all four quarters, the team can achieve Coach Mulitalo's goal against Methodist.
IMPACT PLAYERS:
Stockton Ferguson has been heating up the latter part of the season for the defensive unit, recording 14 tackles in the past two weeks, with a career-high ten tackles coming against Maryville.
Chase Wester will look to step up, and create scoring opportunities and break away from the Monarch's secondary. The offensive line, with the likes of Jakob Giras and Hugo Ortega-Sanchez have been playing big-time football and will give Colten Shumway enough time to find Wester.
