Knights Fall in Battle vs Nittany Lions

BUENA VISTA, Va- On a gorgeous fall day, the Southern Virginia University Rugby fought hard from the opening whistle in a close conference loss to foe Penn State.

Coach Smyth was able to share his thoughts after the match: " The boys put in a great effort today, they played hard. We just need to do a better job of turning our opportunities into points. We're getting better all the time, a little more accuracy in our execution and we could have won today! We'll keep moving and improving!"

O'Shea Settle was able to hit a successful penalty goal about midway through the first half to take the early advantage for the Knights 3-0. After being able to capitalize a try after several
explosive runs bounced to the outside the Nittany Lions took the 5-3 advantage.

Penn State was able to capitalize on a conversion opportunity to further their lead 8-3. A late first half try and a made conversion stretched the lead 15-3 at the half.

Alex Kennach was able to find the try zone early in the second half that cut the lead 15-8. Sione Tokelau was also able to get on the board and Wei Stanton made a second half conversion for the Knights.

Southern Virginia unfortunately was not able to catch up to Penn State and lost a close fought match 24-15.

The Knights will now prepare for the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure University who travel to Buena Vista on Saturday, November 5 for the teams final home game of the year.
