Box Score DANVILLE, VA. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team earned their first conference victory Thursday night, taking down Averett University in the first game of the three-game series 9-3.

- Will Parker led the team with two hits, while Nick Daynes, Kyle Thompson, Mitchell Smith, Benjamin Horsley, Sinjun Johnson, and Jackson Massey recorded one
- On the mound, Zach Zalar dominated, recording a game-high six strikeouts
- Will Parker joined Zalar, tallying three strikeouts
- In the fifth inning, Kyle Thompson singled to left field, sending Sinjun Johnson home for the run, getting the first poinst on the board for the Knights
- Will Parker followed with a tripe to left field, recording the RBI, sending Kyle Thompson home
- Southern Virginia closed the fifth inning, going on an 8-0 that included a Mitchell Smith home run
- The Knights scored their final run in the eighth inning, following a Mitchell Smith fly out to right field, scoring Jackson Massey
- The Cougars were unable to come back in the eight and ninth inning with the Knights taking home the 9-3 win
Southern Virginia continues the series, taking on the Cougars on Friday, March 25. Game time is slated for 3 pm.
