Box Score BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team took on Pfeiffer University Friday night for a USA South Conference matchup with the Knights using a final run in the ninth inning to capture the 8-7 victory.
Game Notes
- Will Parker led the team with three hits and three RBIs while Nick Daynes followed with two hits and two RBIs
- Kyle Thompson, Sinjun Johnson, and Nate McCallum joined Daynes with two hits of their own
- Benjamin Horsley rounded out the hitting, tallying one hit on the night
- On the mound Will Parker and Zach Zalar recorded four strikeouts each while Will Sprague tallied two
- In the first inning, the Knights went ahead 2-0 after Ethan Bergstrom sent Kyle Thompson home for the score following an error by the shortstop
- Aiden Bevier sac flied to field following Bergstrom, scoring Will Parker
- In the second inning, Will Parker singled down the right field line, sending Kyle Thompson home for the run
- Nick Daynes recorded the two-run homerun to close out the second, putting Southern Virginia up 5-0
- In the fourth, Will Parker hit the game's second homerun, putting the squad up 6-2 over the Falcons
- Pfeiffer cut their deficit to one points after seven innings before Will Parker brought the lead back up to two runs after singling through the right side, sending Sinjun Johnson home
- In the bottom of the ninth, Sinjun Johnson singled to center field, bringing Benjamin Horsley home, locking in the 8-7 victory
Southern Virginia resumes competition on Saturday, April 2, taking on Pfeiffer in a two-game series at Parry McCluer High School. Game one is scheduled for noon and game two is scheduled for 2 pm.
