Knights Lose Close to Squirrels in Doubleheader Series

STAUNTON, VA. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell in their doubleheader series Saturday afternoon, falling to Mary Baldwin 12-11 in game one, and 5-4 in game two. 


Series Notes

  • Kyle Thompson, Will Parker, and Nick Daynes led the way for the team in game one, recording three hits, with Parker and Daynes recording two RBIs
  • Pitching for the Knights, Nate McCallum recorded a team-high three strikeouts
  • The Knights used the sixth inning of the first game to go on an 8-0 scoring run, led by Sinjun Johnson's three-run homer
  • In the ninth inning, Southern Virginia went up 11-9, but Mary Baldwin used a final three-run walk-off home run to take the 12-11 victory
  • In the first inning of the second game, Nick Daynes got the scoring going, hitting a single that advanced Kyle Thompson home for the 1-0 lead
  • Mitchell Smith followed with another single, sending Will Parker home for the score
  • In the third inning, Jackson Massey hit a single, bringing Will Parker in for the score
  • Luke Paulson closed out the scoring for the Knights, hitting a single and advancing Nick Daynes home for the run

Southern Virginia takes on the Apprentice School on the road on Wednesday, April 20. Game time is scheduled for 2 pm.
