BRIDGEWATER, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Football team hits the road for the first time in their 2022 season, taking on Bridgewater College on Saturday, September 10, at 2 pm.
"We're excited for a good matchup this year against a younger Bridgewater team," said Head Coach, Ed Mulitalo. "We had opportunities in last year's game, and with our team getting more game experience under their belts, we should be able to take advantage of those chances this weekend."
The Series
The Knights and the Eagles meet for the fourth time in program history, with their first meeting dating back to 2010, and their most recent meeting happening in 2021 where the Eagles took home the 35-17 victory.
Last year, Southern Virginia got on the board first after
Davis Pinkston connected with
Skylar Johnson for the 13-yard touchdown pass.
Bridgewater answered quickly with three more touchdowns and a field goal to go ahead 25-7.
In the third quarter, Pinkston found an open
Jake Schenk for a 58-yard touchdown connection, making the new score 25-14.
Southern Virginia's defense stood their ground, holding Bridgewater's offense to only one touchdown in a quarter and a half of play. A final field goal by
Derek Bass made the final score 35-17 in favor of the Eagles.
