WASHINGTON, PA - The Southern Virginia Men's Wrestling team participated in the W&J Tournament, showcasing a mix of victories and challenges for the individual competitors.
Joseph Comaduran and Mike Minevich initiated the action in the 125-pound division. In his first match, Comaduran faced a tough opponent, leading to a drop into the consolation bracket. Despite dominating with a 13-0 majority decision, he encountered a close match where an early takedown didn't translate into a win, resulting in a first-round fall.
Minevich began with a strong start, securing quick pins in his first two rounds. However, in a hard-fought battle during the third round, he succumbed to a pin near the end of the second round. In the consolation bracket, Minevich earned a win by forfeit but faced challenges, losing by a second-round fall in the subsequent match.
At 133 pounds, John Carlson struggled after an early tech fall, leading to a shift to the consolation bracket. Despite a hard-fought 12-6 win over Joey Coppola of Gettysburg, Carlson faced another tough match, losing by a majority decision of 2-8.
In the 141-pound division, Porter Kinne began with an early win by fall but couldn't maintain the momentum, falling in a close second-round match. In the consolation bracket, he faced another setback, losing by a second-round pin.
Sawyer Ferry encountered difficulties from the start, falling in both the first round and the consolation bracket at 141 pounds.
Weston Hirschi at 149 pounds experienced elimination from the tournament bracket but rebounded with a dominant performance for a third-round pin. However, he faced challenges in his next bout, losing by a 3-17 majority decision.
At 157 pounds, William Haight struggled in the tournament bracket but found success in the consolation, opening with a first-round pin and securing an 8-5 win before succumbing to a tech fall in the subsequent bout.
Noah James at 165 pounds suffered early pins in both the tournament and consolation brackets.
Tyson Hoopes at 174 pounds started with an early bye but faced a close bout, losing 5-9 before entering the consolation bracket. A win by forfeit in the consolation bracket was followed by a first-round pin, but he fell in the next round.
Hank Svedin at 184 pounds won by an 11-2 majority decision in the opening round but faced setbacks, being pinned in the second round of both the tournament and consolation brackets.
Loyal Holm at 197 pounds fell by a 3-11 majority decision in the opening game and encountered another challenge, losing in a hard-fought 2-7 decision in his second bout.
