Mechanicsburg, PA - The Southern Virginia men's wrestling team showcased their prowess at the Messiah Tournament during the two-day invitational event, fielding 20 talented wrestlers from the Southern Virginia squad.
Joseph Comaduron represented the Knights in the 125-pound division, advancing to the second round after receiving a bye. However, he faced a challenging first-round defeat by a fall to Jack Stanley from Mount Union.
In the 157-pound division, William Haight displayed remarkable determination, securing consecutive 8-2 majority decision wins in the early rounds. Despite a valiant effort, he narrowly lost in a close battle by a 2-6 decision in the quarterfinals.
Wrestling in the 141-pound class, Weston Hirschi claimed an impressive victory over Wuadir Medley from Greensboro College with a fall but succumbed to a late second-round pin in the subsequent match.
Similarly competing in the 141-pound category, Porter Kinne achieved an early second-round victory by fall before experiencing a setback in the following round, losing by tech fall 4-20.
Elijah Blackwell competed in the 149-pound category, securing a hard-fought majority decision victory in the first round. However, he faced a narrow 5-8 decision defeat in a tightly contested match.
Tyson Hoopes found success in the 174-pound division, earning opening round pins and advancing to the second round with another pin. Despite putting up a resilient fight, Hoopes eventually lost in the quarterfinals by tech fall 7-25.
Loyal Holm, wrestling in the 197-pound division, commenced with a dominant first-round pin. However, after a fiercely fought battle, he was defeated in the second round with a score of 4-7.
The Knights now travel to in Danville, VA to take on Averett University at the Cougar Duals on Friday December 9th at 9:00 AM.
