Buies Creek, NC – The Southern Virginia men's basketball team embarked on a journey to Buies Creek for a face-off against Division I Campbell University on a Saturday afternoon.
In the initial four minutes of the contest, the Camels seized control of the game, amassing 14 points, with only a three-pointer from Koa Baker breaking up their scoring streak. A pivotal 3PT jumper from Everett Leifson ignited the scoring, and Baker added back-to-back points. However, Campbell's defensive prowess forced 14 first-half turnovers, creating offensive pressure that proved challenging to overcome. The first half concluded with Campbell holding a commanding 50-28 advantage.
The Knights surged into the second half with a 9-4 point advantage, highlighted by another three-pointer from Baker. They began to recover by minimizing turnovers and securing five steals.
Despite the Knights' solid play in the second half, it wasn't sufficient to counter the hot-shooting Camels, leading to a final score of 87-56.
Koa Baker led the Knights in points with 18, shooting 6-11 from the field and 2-4 from beyond the arc. Malakai Olson also contributed significantly with 15 points, displaying efficiency with a 4-6 field goal record, 1-2 from three, and a solid 6-7 performance from the free-throw line.
Looking ahead, the Knights continue their journey on the road for a showdown at Shenandoah University on Wednesday, December 6th. This matchup marks the 10th meeting between these teams, with the Knights holding a 7-2 edge over the Hornets. Last year, the Knights secured a victory in an overtime thriller against the Hornets, emerging triumphant with a score of 81-80.
