Lexington, VA - The Southern Virginia University wrestling team showcased their prowess at the Jim Crytzer tournament held on Saturday, January 6th, with multiple wrestlers delivering commendable performances in this fiercely competitive mid-season event.
Quinn Richards set the tone for the Knights with a strong showing in the 125-pound division, securing an impressive 3-6 record and finishing in fourth place. Richards displayed resilience, notably battling teammate Joseph Comaduron for his third consecutive victory before ultimately securing the fourth-place position.
Tyson Hoopes continued to shine for the Knights in the 174-pound division, achieving a remarkable 7-5 record. Hoopes' standout performance included a stellar streak of five consecutive wins, each by a fall or a bye, before narrowly missing out on victory in the championship round via a close decision.
Porter Trapp competed admirably in the 285-pound division, finishing with a commendable 1-5 record and securing fifth place overall. Trapp's performance was highlighted by an early pin over Marymount College, contributing significantly to his eventual fifth-place finish.
The team's next stop will be Collegeville, Pennsylvania, as they gear up to participate in the Will Abele Tournament scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13.
