Southern Virginia Men’s Wrestling Impresses at Shenandoah Invitational

Winchester, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team earned a strong fifth-place finish at the Shenandoah Invitational, thanks to standout individual performances across multiple weight classes. The Knights gained valuable experience and momentum, setting the stage for their upcoming dual season.

Notable Performances

Francisco Ramirez (133 lbs)

Ramirez (2-2) contributed 4.0 team points. He opened his campaign with a decisive 8-2 victory and followed it up with a pin in 1:35 during the second round before falling in subsequent matches.

Porter Kinne (149 lbs)

Kinne (2-2) added 3.5 points to the team score. After a narrow loss in his opening match, Kinne rebounded with a 1:49 pin and a hard-fought 5-4 decision victory. His efforts carried him deep into the consolation bracket before he fell to a major decision in the fourth round.

Noah James (165 lbs)

James (1-2) earned 2.5 points. He showcased his skill with a quick pin in just 1:06 in the consolation bracket, contributing crucial points for the Knights.

Tyson Hoopes (174 lbs)

Hoopes (2-2) scored 5.0 points, displaying dominance in the consolation rounds with back-to-back pins in 0:36 and 0:34. His close 10-7 loss in the fourth round capped an impressive performance.

Ikia Garcia (184 lbs)

Garcia (4-1) was a standout performer, earning 14.0 points and placing fifth. He opened with a lightning-fast 0:24 pin and rebounded from a quarterfinal loss with strong wins, including a decisive 11-6 victory in the fifth-place match.

Loyal Holm (197 lbs)

Holm (3-2) earned 14.0 points and finished sixth. His perseverance shone in the consolation bracket, where he recorded an injury default win and a pin in 2:04 before narrowly missing a higher placement.

Britton Sorenson (197 lbs)

Sorenson (2-2) placed eighth, contributing key points through strong pins in the consolation rounds, including a 0:33 victory.

Porter Trapp (285 lbs)

Trapp (2-2) placed fourth, earning 16.0 points, the highest individual contribution for the Knights. Trapp demonstrated resilience, notching back-to-back pins before competing in hard-fought semifinal and third-place matches.

Jonathan Cox (285 lbs)

Cox (2-2) displayed potential with two pins in the early rounds, including a 4:15 fall in his opening match. Although eliminated in the consolation bracket, his contributions added depth to the Knights' performance.

The Knights will carry the momentum from this invitational into their first dual of the season against Averett University on November 21.
