Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball program celebrated a historic achievement as Zack Geertsen became the first player in school history to earn a spot on the D3baseball.com Preseason All-America Team. He was named to the All-America Third Team Utility. This recognition reflects Geertsen's outstanding 2024 season and his immense contributions to the Knights' success.
The D3baseball.com Preseason All-America team is a prestigious list selected from prior All-America and All-Region nominees. Geertsen's inclusion follows an extraordinary 2024 campaign during which he was named Second Team All-Region, Region 6 Rookie of the Year, and First-Team All-Conference in the USA South. His versatility was a key factor, excelling both as a starting pitcher and a designated hitter.
Geertsen's 2024 performance was remarkable both at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, he recorded a stellar .405 batting average, a .480 on-base percentage, and a .622 slugging percentage, contributing 28 runs, 38 RBIs, and four home runs. On the mound, he compiled a 6-3 record with a 4.55 ERA and 28 strikeouts, solidifying his impact as a dual-threat player.
Southern Virginia will launch its 2025 baseball season with a doubleheader at Mid-Atlantic Christian University on February 15th and host its home opener against the Mustangs on February 25th. With Geertsen leading the charge, the Knights are poised for an exciting and promising season.
