Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's wrestling team kicked off the new year in style, defeating Greensboro College 30-14 in a commanding dual match on Friday night. The Knights used this matchup to fine-tune their performance ahead of the Knight Invitational on Saturday, January 18th.

Onnika Christensen got the Knights on the scoreboard early in her Knight's debut with an impressive pin midway through the first period, giving Southern Virginia a strong start.

The 110-pound division resulted in a double forfeit, but the Knights capitalized on forfeits at three other weight classes:

117: Sadie Allred added five points to the team total.

124: Andrea Castro secured another five points.

131: Leigh-Anne Verburg contributed five points as well.

In the 145-pound division, Makenna Dolt continued her stellar season with a quick pin early in the first period. Avari Johnson (160) followed suit with another first-period fall, sealing the dual victory for Southern Virginia.

Greensboro's points came from forfeits in the 180 and 207-pound divisions, but the Knights' early dominance ensured the final score of 30-14 in favor of Southern Virginia.

The Knights now turn their focus to hosting the Knight Invitational on Saturday, January 18th, at 10:00 AM. The event will feature teams from Allen, Bluefield, Greensboro, Liberty, Marymount, and Randolph. Southern Virginia is poised to showcase their depth and skill against a strong field of competitors.
