Southern Virginia Women’s Wrestling Wraps Up Season at NCWWC Regional Championships

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Southern Virginia University women's wrestling team closed out its season at the NCWWC Regional Championships, finishing ninth overall while competing against some of the top NCAA Division I and II programs in the country, including Presbyterian, Emmanuel, and King University.

The Knights had two regional placers, with Onnika Christensen (110 lbs.) and Makenna Dolt (124 lbs.) both earning sixth-place finishes in their respective weight classes.

Head Coach Jessica Casperson reflected on the team's performance, highlighting the program's continued growth in its second season.

"Our program's momentum continues to grow in year two as we had two additional wrestlers compete at regionals this year, as well as two previously regionally and nationally ranked athletes sidelined due to medical reasons," said Casperson. "The camaraderie among this team is nothing short of family—support and love abound. They are competitive on the mat, giving their all, and using the knowledge they have. We had first-season wrestlers putting points on the board and competing with the nation's best."

Casperson also noted the progress of the team's veteran wrestlers, who continue to build confidence and translate it into success both in the classroom and on the mat.

"It shows up in consistent, calm timing and movements that are creating steady successes. As a team, we are excited for the future of our program. We have put in the foundational work to learn and build the fundamentals that will serve us well in the seasons to come. We also have the team unity and commitment to make it happen."

Makenna Dolt, who secured sixth place in the 124-pound division, reflected on her growth from last season.

"I placed sixth out of 11 competitors in my weight class when last year I didn't place at all," said Dolt. "It's been a journey of steady progress, and I couldn't have done it without the support of my teammates. A special shoutout to Dusti Casperson for being the best teammate ever."

With the 2025 season in the books, the Knights now turn their focus to offseason training as they continue to build toward a strong future in women's collegiate wrestling.
