Laurinburg, N.C. – In a battle of the Knights, the Southern Virginia University beach volleyball team emerged victorious in a doubleheader showdown against St. Andrews University, taking the matches 3-2 and 4-1.
Southern Virginia set the tone early in the first match, with
Kami Milius and
Claire Grasteit dominating in the #1 position, winning in straight sets 21-10 and 21-16.
Baylee Savage and
Callie Tuckfield fought hard but fell in position two with close sets of 14-21 and 12-21.
Emily Peterson and
Mikki Prows delivered a gritty performance in the third position. After dropping the first set 13-21, they roared back to take the second set 21-14 and closed out the match with a decisive 15-10 win.
St. Andrews evened the score in position four, as
Charity Elam and
Brynn Keeling narrowly fell 18-21 and 19-21.
The dual came down to the final match, where
Gabi Green and
London Skea secured the victory for Southern Virginia. After a tough first set battle, they edged out a 26-24 win and sealed the match with a dominant 21-13 performance, clinching the 3-2 team victory.
In an exhibition match,
Claire Harris and
Morgan Almond won convincingly, 21-7, 21-15.
Game two saw Southern Virginia take control, securing a 4-1 win:

Savage & Tuckfield – 21-18, 14-21, 16-14
Elam & Keeling – 21-17, 21-13
Green & Skea – 21-19, 14-21, 15-6
Exhibition (Harris & Almond) – 21-18, 18-21
Southern Virginia now looks ahead to the Lynchburg Tournament, taking place Friday, March 28 – Saturday, March 29.
