WINCHESTER, Va. Trailing by seven at the half, the Southern
Virginia Men's Basketball team mounted a strong comeback to beat
Shenandoah 82-79. SVU scored 51-points in the second term, and
outscored the hosts by 10 to squeak out the away victory. Bryce
Pendleton and Ade Swann each had 18-points to lead the Knights to
their seventh victory of the young season.
"This was not an easy victory by any means," said Head Coach
Brian Pendleton. "We dug ourselves a good hole in that first half,
and we knew that it would take our best effort to get the win. It
was a great comeback, and we got a win that we needed."
The Knights trailed by 13 with 5:30 left before a Chris Lewis
three-point play started a furious comeback for the visitors. Over
the next five and a half minutes the Knights applied pressure and
slowly orked themselves back into the game.
SVU was still trailing with :39 left on the clock when Lewis
stole the ball and provided Swann with a layup to take lead for the
first time in the game. A missed jumper by the Hornets with 7
seconds left meant that the Knights had stole a game where they
were down by as much as 14, and trailed for the majority of the
game.
Cory Evans had a strong performance on the boards as he pulled
down 7 for the game, and put in two free-throws to get the Knights
within one at the ed of the game. The Knights again hd a quartet of
double-digit scorers as Swann, Pendleton, Lewis and Evans paced the
Knights to the upset. SVU had 13-points off the bench.
The Knights are now at 7-3 on the season. The upoming opponent
for SVU will be a challenge, as the team travels to play at NCAA
D.I opponent Campbell. The game is scheduled for Dec. 7 with a 7:00
pm start.
