STAUNTON, Va. Amanda Prestwich's 23-points and Kezia Ford's
double-double powered the Southern Virginia Women's Basketball team
to a 75-61 victory over Mary Baldwin. Ford scored 20-points and
pulled down 14-rebounds as the Knights got back in to the win
column after a challenging loss to Bluefield.
"Its a good rebound game for us," said Head Coach Mike Harmon.
"We didn't pay as well as we should have against Bluefield, and
it's good to see the team respond like this. Amanda and Kezia had
great games, and I think that bodes well for us. Hopefully we use
this momentum."
The game was still in doubt at the end of the first half as SVU
was ahead by only two-points at 33-31. However, a combination of
solid field-goal shooting, and multiple trips to the free-throw
line helped the Knights pull away from he Squirrels and outscore
the hosts 42-30 in the second term. SVU out muscled Mary Baldwin on
the glass as the Knights pulled down a season high 60-rebounds.
Prestwich was one rebound shy of joining Ford with a double-double.
The Knights shot 47% from the field and were an overall 18-28
from the free-throw line. SVU is now at 4-3 for the season. SVU
travels Dec. 5 to play NCAA D.I opponent Radford. The game has a
3:00 pm tip-off.
