BUENA VISTA, Va. The Southern Virginia Women's team honored its three seniors and looked to send them off with a win, but could not overcome Bluefield, losing 62-47. The match was tightly contested in the first-half as SVU was within one-point of the visiting Rams at the half. The 30-29 score line was a positive note for the hosts as they looked to get back to winning ways after two tough mid-week losses.

Kara Hiatt, one of the three seniors playing her last game, looked to ensure that the last game would be the best. She helped pace the nights, and kept them close early on. Hiatt was the game's high-scorer with 13-points.

Buefield, however, had more depth, and size and was able to maximize a hot-shooting night, as they pulled away in the second term. The Rams were able to capitalize on 3-of-11 three-point shooting, as well as shooting 11-of-40 in the second half to increase the 1-point lead they started with.

SVU went cold from behind the three-point line in the second-half missing all seven attempts from beyond the arc. The Knights struggled again from the field as they went 19-of-54, for a 35% shooting percentage. The Knights had a better percentage than the Rams, but took almost 20 fewer shots throughout the competition.

Late on the Rams extended the lead and pushed it finally to the 15-point margin the game ended at. Bluefield maintained a slight edge in rebounds, pulling down 3-more than the Knights' 38. Carly Skinner led the team with 11-rebounds.

The game was the last for seniors Hiatt, Ashley Baird and Hillary Congdon. The game also ends the season for the Knights as they will not be able to make the trip to Kentucky Christian on Feb. 23. The season ends on an 8-16 record.
