Southern Virginia Struggles at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — After winning five of its last six matches, the Southern Virginia University men's tennis team struggled at Bridgewater College on Tuesday afternoon falling 9-0 to the NCAA Division III Eagles.

Tuesday's match at Bridgewater was part of a doubleheader with Southern Virginia women's tennis, which suffered its first loss of the season to the Eagles 6-3.

Southern Virginia's (6-5) top duo of Shaolin Chandam and Stefan Vlassek tested Bridgewater (7-5) at No. 1 doubles before falling 8-6 in a back-and-forth match.

Chandam then went on suffer his second singles loss of the spring in a tough-fought 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-7 defeat at No. 1 singles.

Timothy Birch (No. 3) and Adam Williford (No. 5) were the only other Knights to win a set in singles play, but both went on to drop their super-tiebreaker.

Men's tennis next travels to NCAA Division I Radford University on Saturday, Mar. 26 for a match at 3 p.m.
